Arena - the deathmatch simulator - is a lightweight 2D indie game in the platformer and shooter genres. It features highly customizable matchmaking and fast paced gameplay. Classic elements such as rocket jumping, slow motion and double jumping are featured for more intense action. The game is single player only.

The core of the game is unarguably the matchmaking. To start off, there are 3 game modes with different team setups, rules and goals. These are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Last Man Standing. Moving on, the amount of bots and the map are to be selected. Finally, to make this all interesting, there are several mutators available that change one thing about the laws of the game. Some examples are Low Gravity, Big Head, Rapid Fire, Rocket Launchers and Instagib.
Arena is the game where revolvers are mini-whirlwinds, shotguns are overpowered, assault rifles shoot grenades, energy rifles look like snowfalls, plasma guns accelerate into their unsuspecting targets, rocket launchers are the second best method to jump, and javelins are so heavy to hurl that they push you the other way. This is an evergrowing arsenal of unique weapons, all of them with a primary and a secondary fire mode.
Since the game lacks any kind of story or campaign mode, there are achievements to give short-term goals to the players in each game session. To make them appealing, there are none that require repetitive grinding; instead, achievements in Arena are unique in their own way and a very specific thing is to be executed to get them. There is a hidden weapon stash on one of the maps - unravelling its mystery is an achievement. Dying right after winning a match, that is another one.
Arena receives content updates on a weekly basis. This always takes place on Tuesdays and adds something new - a weapon, an achievement or a mutator most of the time. This is completely free for everyone who has bought the game and will stay that way forever.
Apart from the small patches, there are a few big updates planned and waiting in the queue. New game modes are to be added, including Capture the Flag, Payload and Survival. Arena will receive a levelling system which will be responsible for unlocking new weapons and even cosmetics.

Arena has been developed in the C language, using SDL for window and input handling, OpenGL for graphics and OpenAL for audio.
